I came across this game when looking for apps to teach the alphabet. I think I have played it more than my 3yo (Big-T), but don’t tell the wife! Its not designed to teach children, but it does so in a fun way. Its also another example of how slick apps can be.
Disclaimer: I only use the “Quick Mode” and have not tried the full version above. Big-T (just over 3) has not got past ‘H’ yet, so I am not sure I will ever buy the full version for him – at least not for a while yet! I assume it has more levels and more challenges. I have increased the suggest age range for the full version based on this assumption.
The Application
In this game the letters ‘A’ to ‘Z’ appear one by one and you have to touch them as quickly as possible. ‘A’ is easy, ‘B’ you have to pick between two letters, then more and more letters appear and you have to find ‘C’, ‘D’, ‘E’ etc in progressively harder mixes of letters on the screen that start dancing, twisting, swirling, only half visible etc.
Many adults find this app fun. Big-T who can read his letters from A-Z now also enjoys it – but only if I start it up. He tends to personally select other games first.
The Good
- High quality graphics and sounds. A very nicely done app.
- Starts easy and gets harder, so everyone can succeed to start with.
- Reinforces recognition of letters.
The Bad
- It starts from A and goes up to Z getting harder. Its not designed as a preschooler game. As a result, the child will learn A say up to H a lot, but not the later letters like X, Y, and Z. Well, not unless they are playing this game far too often for their own good!
Educational Value
This program is not intended to teach pre-school children, but can be used as a suppliment game if your child already knows the alphabet.
My Score
4 stars. Its great quality, great fun (for all ages) and reinforces letters, even though not designed specifically for preschool children.
